The Story

In 2005 Charles Young started the CY Select Wolves program in Ames, Iowa with a roster of 11 boys. Over the course of the last 15 years the Wolves have evolved into one of the biggest AAU girls basketball programs in the state of Iowa serving players from 3rd grade through high school and families from over 35 school districts.

The evolution of the program has welcomed key individuals that attribute to the success of the Wolves experience. Program Director Ashley Adams joined the Wolves in 2015 as a coach and has been in her current role since 2018. Coaches Tiana Ziegler, Kaleb Dammeier, Caitlynne Shadle, Charity Ransom, Emma Ray, Xary Nunez-Hiraldo, Kari Sullivan, Kadence Williams and Cassidy Thompson bring various valuable perspectives to the court as well.

The Wolves program is a true player development program and focuses on the whole athlete. The Wolves regularly host “Wolfpack” events for players and families and incorporate a mentorship opportunity for older players to be involved in supporting younger players within the program.

“At the end of a player’s career with us, true success is defined by the whole experience they have as a Wolves player not only on the court, but off the court as well. We strive to empower young women through the game of basketball.
